Azenhas do Mar is a small town located thirty kilometers from Lisbon, in the municipality of Sintra. It is picturesquely situated on a steep cliff overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. At the foot of the cliff there are a beautiful beach and a natural pool in a rock basin. Above this unique body of water a restaurant with stunning views of the ocean was built. The town’s name is derived from water mills, whereas the town itself has numerous buildings with a white facade. Residents of Azenhas do Mar have worked in vineyards for centuries, they have been also employed in agriculture and fishing industries, today the town is also a tourist resort.
