Atlanta is the capital of the US state of Georgia. Its beginnings are connected with the construction of a railway line in the 1830s. During the American Civil War general William Sherman ordered to burn the city. In 1996 the city hosted the Summer Olympic Games, however, they were not particularly successful. The presidents of the USA Woodrow Wilson and Jimmy Carter, as well as Martin Luther King were born in Atlanta. Currently, the landscape of Atlanta is dominated by modern skyscrapers – the headquarters of banks and large corporations. A five-lane highway runs through the city center.
