Egeskov Castle is a stronghold located on the south-west coast of Funen Island in Denmark. It is the best preserved Renaissance castle on water in the world. It was erected in 1554 on the foundation made of oak pales in the place of the former (13th-14th centuries) residential building. The castle, throughout the centuries changing owners, since 1992 has been owned by Michael Ahlefeldt-Laurvig-Bille and at present is one of the most popular tourist attractions on Funen Island (it is visited by about 200.000 people annually).
