The coat of the German Shepherd Dog consists of a top coat and an undercoat. The topcoat is long, soft and fits tightly on the ears, back of the limbs, on the metacarpus and ankle, forming flags, while on the thighs fluffy, light pants. Fluffy tail with abundant plume underneath. The color is black with reddish, fawn, yellow or light gray tan. Solid black or gray, swarthy, saddle pads with a mask are also acceptable, as are white markings in the form of a spot on the breast and a lighter color. However, the latter are not desired. The truffle is always black, no matter what color it is. The undercoat is gray, except for dogs that are solid black. White or spotted color is not allowed.
