Lake Eibsee and Zugspitze massif in the Alps (Germany)
Zugspitze is Germany's highest mountain, reaching the height of almost 3,000 meters above sea level. It is located in the Bavarian Alps on the border between Germany and Austria. The name comes from frequent avalanches sweeping down from its slopes and it literally translates as the "avalanche mountain". Despite this fact, there are popular ski resorts and mountain hostels, which are frequently visited by hikers captivated by the beauty of Alpine nature. On the plateau at the foot of the peak there are, among others, Germany's only ski resort located on the glacier, and at the top itself there is more than a century-old hotel that belongs to the German Alpine Club.
