Orangutans are large apes. The name comes from the Malayan "Orand Hutan" and means "a forest man". Orangutans are the apes that live on trees and spend there almost the whole life. They have definitely a day lifestyle, at night they need about 12 hours of sleep. Short legs and long arms are characteristic for the orangutans – the arms' span reaches even 230 cm. These apes inhabit the rainforests of the Sumatra and Borneo. In wilderness they live up to 40 years, however, in captivity in may be ever 60 years.
