Paper-clip, as well as many other inventions, has a few authors. Toward the end of 19th century William Middlebrook from the United States patented the machine producing paper-clips. At the same time Johan Vaaler from Norway constructed his own design of a paper-clip. It was also achieved by Józef Hofman, Polish pianist, who was believed to have been inspired by the shape of treble clef.
