Manufacturing of fabrics has a very long tradition on the Dark Continent. Cotton is the basic raw material from which yarn has been obtained for centuries, however, in some regions camel or goat wool and raffia are used. Traditionally, in African communities weaving is exclusively men’s activity and women are not allowed to do that. However, they play a particular role in the process of fabrics creation as they deal with dyeing yarn and finished fabrics. Thanks to women African fabrics are so colorful and diverse.
