Regensburg is one of the oldest town in Germany, it is located in Bavaria in the south of the country. Its history dates back almost 2000 years, when the Roman stronghold functioned in the place of today's center. Nevertheless, archaeological excavations confirmed that the oldest traces of settlement in this area date back to the 5th century BC. Despite the rich history preserved in the architecture of the town, in the 1960s there were plans to demolish the old town of Regensburg and build a modern business district in the center. Fortunately, these plans were abandoned and the old town was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
