The lighthouse of the French island of Vierge was built in the middle of the 19th century. In order to reach its top – which is situated at the height of 82,5m – one must go through beautiful, winding stairs, consisting of 397 steps. First five steps were made of granite plates, next 360 of stone, and the last 32 of iron. The lighthouse’s walls were covered with opal panes. The lighthouse on the Vierge has been made accessible for visitors.
