The fabulously colorful Pena Palace in the Portuguese city of Sintra was built in the first half of the 19th century in the Romanticist style. On a cloudless day this monumental edifice situated on the hill is visible even from Lisbon. Tourists can also visit the interiors of the royal palace, stroll around small chambers and utility rooms that were decorated with exceptional splendor. A characteristic feature of the palace are not only yellow-red-gray facades, but also unusual architectural solutions and extravagant details, among which bas-reliefs and mosaics, decorating long corridors and bay windows, are predominant.
