The ridge of the Pyrenees, in the prevalent part of the range, creates a natural border between Spain and France. The Pyrenees belong to the Western Alpide belt and are the third highest mountain range in Europe. The highest summit of the Pyrenees is called the Pico de Aneto and is 3404 m high. The name of the range originates from the name of the mythological daughter of Atlas - Pirene.
