Karlovy Vary is a famous health resort and holiday destination of tourists from around the world. The local thermal waters cure digestive system and metabolism, but also have a beneficial effect on patients with a history of oncological diseases. However, in the first half of July the town becomes the European capital of cinema, as the International Film Festival takes place here at this time, it is the most prestigious event of its kind in Central Europe. The festival has been organized regularly since 1946. Every year about 200 films from all the continents have their premiere screenings here – the best of them receives the first prize, the Crystal Globe. The Thermal Hotel is the center of the festival, however, films and accompanying events (concerts, conferences, meetings with authors) are scattered throughout the town, attracting fans of the tenth muse from around the world.
