The Belarusian offensive operation "Bagration" was a strategic offensive operation of the Workers' and Peasants' Red Army (RKKA) of the Armed Forces of the USSR against the armed forces of Nazi Germany, carried out from June 23 to August 29, 1944 during the Great Patriotic War (1941–1945). The operation is named after the Russian commander Pyotr Ivanovich Bagration, who distinguished himself in Suvorov's Italian and Swiss campaigns in 1799 and gained particular fame during the campaign of 1805, becoming famous in the Battle of Schöngraben, and the Patriotic War of 1812. During Operation Bagration, the Soviet army inflicted the largest defeat on the German army in the entire military history of Germany, defeating the Wehrmacht's Army Group Center. One of the largest military operations in the history of mankind.
