Nazare is a small Portuguese town located in the central part of the western coast, situated by a wonderful beach at an extensive lagoon surrounded by steep rocks. The town derives its name from a small statue of the Virgin Mary, a Black Madonna, brought by a monk in the 4th century from Nazareth. A wide beach with gold sand is a great town’s attraction. The Nazare beach is crowded by tourists every year and for that reason it is guarded, there are showers and tourists may rent beach tents or deckchairs. Nazare is the place with wonderful conditions to swim in the ocean.
