Apples are the fruits of the apple tree and they grow in various colors, sizes and varieties. They are widely used in cuisines as an additive to desserts, pies, meatless and meat dishes. However, there are most frequently eaten in a raw form, as they are very tasty, healthy and easily accessible almost all year round. Apples are a common subject in art and due to their numerous symbolic meanings they are a common motif in the European mythologies, religions, proverbs and fiction. This juicy, round and quite often blood-red fruit has played an important role in love and fertility magic, as well as in prophecies and various rituals. Apples are also a symbol of prosperity, happiness and bumper crop and for that reason they are associated with autumn, i.e. the season of the year when food was harvested and gathered.
