Eggs are considered the symbol of life and a new beginning in many cultures. This cultural significance of eggs results mostly from the fact that they are closed spherical entireties that resemble the structure of the world as well as contain a new life. Due to these facts eggs appear in myths concerning creation of the universe. In ancient Egypt it was believed that the earth had been formed by Ptah, the creator god, in the image of an egg. In Finland, however, there was a myth according to which the whole world was created from an egg laid by a duck. What is more, eggs appear as an important element of magical procedures which are meant to provide well-being, health and wealth.
