Ipanema is the name of one of the districts in Rio de Janeiro, the former capital of Brazil. The district located in the south of the city is known for the beach of the same name and it is the extension of the world’s famous beach – Copacabana. Ipanema is certainly not inferior to its famous neighbor. Social life of the district pulsates on the golden sand of the beach. Refreshing drinks and snacks are sold here, many people play beach volleyball, football and footvalley, i.e. the local team game, which is the combination of football and volleyball. From the west the beach is dominated by the two granite mountains called the Brothers Mountains (Dois Irmãos) and the sun setting behind them is frequently applauded by the locals and tourists as a magnificent show.
