Most probably cherries originated in the south-eastern part of Europe, from where they spread swiftly all over Eurasia. Historic sources have proven that they were known all over Europe until the end of the 16th century. Their fruits, flowers and ever twigs are very beneficial for the human body – fruits protect against cardiovascular diseases and nourish skin, infusion made of dried flowers soothes inflammations, whereas people who suffer from rheumatism are advised to take a bath in the infusion made of young cherry twigs. Unfortunately, the season when cherries fruit is relatively short, but it is possible to prepare cherry preserves, e.g. jams, juices or liqueurs.
