Caribbean is an island region located between the two American continents. It comprises sovereign states, including the Dominican Republic, Haiti or Cuba, there are also some dependencies, among them Virgin Islands, Guadalupe and Martinique. Geographically the Caribbean consists of the three archipelagoes: the Antilles, the Bahamas and the Cayman Islands. The region is famous for golden beaches, abundance of tropical nature as well as hot climate and it is no wonder that tourism is the basis of the Caribbean economy. The revenue from that branch constitutes a large part of GDP and for that reason there is a common belief that flourishing tourism is a chance for the island countries. Nevertheless, it is also important to pay attention to the protection of natural environment, which is frequently destroyed by developers and the increased tourist traffic.
