Ruka is a small town in the municipality of Kuusamo, in the Finnish region of Northern Ostrobothnia. There are ski jumps and the largest winter sports center in the country located on a small range of nearby hills. In 1957, a 300-meter ski lift was built here. Since then, the tourist infrastructure of Ruki and downhill runs have been systematically extended and modernized. Today, there are two hotels, a shopping center, a ski school, a toboggan run and a snowmobile rental.
