Famous Hawaiian garlands are made of flowers of Hawaiian hibiscus. There are over 200 hibiscus species. They are most often used as a decorative plant but they also have curative properties as they lower blood pressure, build up immunity, accelerate metabolism. In some parts of the world they are used in paper production or as edible plants. The flower of Hawaiian hibiscus can be also seen in the emblem of the state of Hawaii.
