Oil painting is a popular technique of painting on canvas or wood with the use of paints prepared mostly from linseed oil and colorful pigments. Oil paints dry slowly, so you can mix them in the right proportions on a special palette or directly on the canvas. Thanks to a skillful combination of different colors we may get unique shades. In the second half of the 19th century oil paints in tubes became very popular and artists could leave their studios and paint outdoors. It is a must to mention here the outdoor pictures created by the impressionists.
