Sibiu is the city in central Romania, located in the historical region – Transylvania. It was founded as early as in 1190 by the Saxons the Roman sentry that had already existed nearby. In the Middle Ages is was a significant trade centre. It was an important crossroad of postal and trade routes running through Transylvania from Europe in the direction of Turkey, Persia and China. Today the international E68 route runs through Sibiu that leads to many cities, among which there are Oradea, Alba Iulia, Braşov, Râmnicu Vâlcea and Bucharest. Sibiu was the European Capital of Culture in 2007.
