Plaze de la Cibeles is the square in Madrid that is one of the most recognizable landmarks of the city. Its name comes from the Phrygian goddess Cybele, the statue of which decorates the fountain embellishing the palace. The most famous edifice there is the post office building – Palacio de Comunicaciones, erected in the 1910’s. Since 2007 the Mayor of Madrid and the city council have been holding an office there and since 2010 the palace has been called Palace de Cibeles, which comes from the name of the square.
