Fort Saint- Andre is a monumental 14th-century fortress located in the south of France. The fortress was built on a plateau at about 50 meters above the sea level, over the western bank of the river Rhone. The border between the Kingdom of France and the Papal State with the capital in Avignon, the town on the other side of the Rhone, used to be situated on the river. The fortress is surrounded by a high thick curtain wall. It was also protected by impressive round towers. The fortress was designed as a symbol of the power of French army and it arouses admiration among tourists from all over the world.
