Spello is a town located in the region of Umbria, in the central part of Italy. The town was established by the ancient Romans, however, it is of decidedly medieval aspect. The old town is full of narrow streets, densely built up with tenement houses and is enclosed in a circuit of medieval walls on Roman foundations, including three Roman Late Antique gates and several medieval portals. There are also ruins of the Roman amphitheatre and as many as twelve churches, many of which were built on the foundations of the former Roman temples. The tourists are captivated by the town’s Mediterranean, historic aura.
