Mehmed Pasha Sokolović Bridge on the Drina River (Bosnia and Herzegovina) online puzzle
The bridge on the River Drina in Višegrad was built in the 16th century by the Grand Vizier Mehmed Pasha Sokolović and designed by the Turkish architect Mimar Sinan Hoca. The bridge was destroyed several times (especially during the two World Wars), but due to the renovations it is a jewel of the Ottoman architecture. The stone bridge has eleven spans and it is one hundred and eighty meters long. It was made famous by the Yugoslav writer Ivo Andric in his well-known novel The Bridge on the Drina, published in 1945.
