Pastel facades of houses that sprout from a steep cliff just above the Ligurian Sea are the landmark of five picturesque towns of the Cinque Terre region in Italian Liguria. Compact, layered buildings – made up mainly of small houses - resemble a colorful mosaic from a distance. The bright facades fade and deteriorate under the influence of winds from the sea, nevertheless, it also adds to a unique atmosphere of this place. Despite the fact that the towns are visited by many tourists, they have retained their cozy atmosphere – windows of the buildings are equipped with dark, old-fashioned shutters and washing lines.
