The capital of Georgia is a city with turbulent and long history, which is more than 1,500 years old. During this time, the territory of Georgia was passed between various regional powers, hence the multicultural nature of the country, which is particularly visible in the capital. In the architecture and culture of Tbilisi visitors can see western influences, as well as Greek Orthodox and Arab ones, and even the remnants of the Far Eastern culture of the Mughal Empire that used to rule here. Unfortunately the history of the city is not only rich but also difficult – throughout the centuries Tbilisi was completely destroyed by enemy armies approximately 30 times! Therefore, the architecture of the city is not only multicultural, but also historically varied – apart from the historic monuments that are thousands of years old, we may also see the work of modern engineering.
