Dresden is the capital of Saxony located on the river Elbe the foothills of the Western Sudetes. The Lutheran Church of Our Lady, known as the Frauenkirche, is one of the landmarks of this German city. This Baroque church was built of sandstone in the first half of the eighteenth century. Due to the allied air raid this historic building was destroyed. The reconstruction of the monumental church was inaugurated after the reunification of Germany. Today the church that was re-consecrated in 2005 dominates the central square of the old city, Neumarkt. In front of the temple there is a statue of Martin Luther.
