Amsterdam is the constitutional capital of the Netherlands situated on the river Amstel. The city is known for its network of canals that dominates the urban space. It is the largest city of the Netherlands and there are as many as 160 canals – that is why Amsterdam is sometimes called the Venice of the North. Herengracht, Keizersgracht and Prinsengracht are the biggest canals. The charming historic buildings with white frames can be admired from the deck of a boat or municipal water taxi. Ubiquitous bicycles are also the symbol of Amsterdam. It is worth renting a bicycle and taking a ride along the canals. Canals can be also admired from a waterbike.
