The Temple Mount of Jerusalem, located in the Old City, is one of the holiest places for followers of monotheistic religions, especially for Muslims. There is Al-Asqa Mosque, the Wailing Wall, as well as the famous Dome of the Rock. The golden dome placed on a square platform shields the rock on which biblical Abraham had – on God's command – killed his son Isaac. However, according to the followers of Islam, this is the place of Muhammad’s ascension. The dome was erected at the end of the 7th century after the death of Caliph Umar. Today, this Muslim temple is a landmark of Jerusalem.
