The town of Jindřichův Hradec lies on the river Nežárka and Vajgar pond in southern Bohemia. Thanks to the favorable location at the crossroads of trade routes this medieval settlement quickly transformed into a prosperous, vibrant town with its own gymnasium. As early as in 1887 Jindřichův Hradec had electric lighting. The Renaissance chateau situated on a picturesque hill is one of the town’s landmarks. In the Middle Ages there was a Gothic castle – its impressive barbican still remains an important tourist attraction.
