In the United States there are many peaceful neighborhoods of single-family houses, which are situated mostly in the outskirts of towns and cities. Lovely houses are noted for their particularly pronounced color, which contrasts with the greenness of a perfectly mown lawn. Such houses have sizable porches with some furniture or a wooden garden swing, which makes afternoon relaxation nicer. Apart from a characteristic porch a typical American house from the outskirts has at least a few windows of various shapes – the ones on the upper floor are usually crowned with rooflets. White facades of the buildings are complemented by white fences, drives and small but carefully cultivated front gardens. Wisteria Lane – a fictional street created for the needs of the TV series titled “Desperate Housewives”, was meant to depict a typical American suburb with characteristic two-storey houses, bright facades, comfortable porches and steep roofs.
