Hamburg. Elba Tunnel between Sant Pauli and Steiwerder, 426.5 m long and 24 m below the river level at the lowest point. Opened in 1911. A complex of lifts has been built on both sides of the tunnel, with cars going down to the tunnel level to use it. The tunnel consists of two one-way pipes.
