The Americans owe the invention of fast food, the basis of which is a heated sausage with sauce served in a long roll, to the German immigrants. It was in Germany, most likely at the end of the 15th century, that thin sausages made of finely ground meat began to be produced. Butchers arriving in the United States came up with the idea of selling their product in street booths. The roll surrounding hot sausage was supposed to protect against burning.
