Christmas balls are the most popular decoration of a Christmas tree and one of the most important Christmas attributes. Production of decorative balls made of blown glass began in the mid-19th century and Hans Greiner is considered to be their originator. Today balls are produced in various colors, sizes and even shapes. The more expensive ones are hand-painted and made of thin glass with extreme precision. Those cheaper ones shine among conifer twigs thanks to intense colors, the addition of glitter and bright patterns. Exquisite and delicate balls replaced nuts, apples and sweets, which used to be hung on Christmas trees.
