The most popular cake associated with Easter is babka, which has been baked in Poland and neighboring countries for hundreds of years. The treat is baked from yeast-based dough with lots of eggs and it has a characteristic shape, reminiscent of a sumptuous skirt with pleats around. Babka owes its appearance to specially grooved baking tins. Icing can be used in order to decorate babka. Apart from babkas the Easter table should be also full of traditional mazureks, fruitcakes, cheesecakes, poppyseed cakes and Polish sękacz.
