Quokka short-tailed [3] (Setonix brachyurus) - a species of mammal from the kangaroo family, the only representative of the genus Quokka (Setonix) [4] [3]. It is found in southwestern Australia and the islands of Rottnest and Bald, where it is more numerous than on the mainland.
Characteristics [edit]
The short-tail quokka is a medium-sized (length: 40–54 cm, length: 24.5–31 cm, weight: 2.7–4.2 kg) marsupial inhabiting tropical forests. It leads a nocturnal, earthy lifestyle, spending the day in dense thickets. He lives in small family groups. She is a herbivore, her fur is thick, long, gray-brown on the head, red on the nape. During copulation, many ova are fertilized, but only one of them develops an embryo. Pregnancy lasts about a month, after giving birth, the young remain in the mother's bag for about half a year. If it does not survive, one of the remaining fertilized cells will develop into another embryo. Short-tailed quokes live about 5 years. The main threat to them, apart from humans, are foxes.
