Active volcanoes Ruapehu, Tongariro and Ngauruhoe are located on New Zealand's North Island. Their repeated eruptions have significantly influenced the nearby landscape. This geothermally active area is part of a nature reserve and is often visited by tourists due to the stunning views. The presence of various minerals colors the water in lakes and streams red, purple, orange or green.
