Štrbské Pleso is the highest village in the Tatra Mountains (1315-1385 m), situated on a gigantic moraine elevation. In its hollow there is a lake, which gave the resort its name. The center was established at the end of the 19th century. Its origin was a shelter built in 1875 on the eastern shore of the lake. It quickly turned out that the climate of Plesa Strbske is favorable for the treatment of bronchial diseases, and in 1885 the small settlement obtained the status of a spa.
