Ek Balam is an ancient city famous for perfectly preserved sculptures and the Maya inscriptions. El Balam can be translated into "Black Jaguar" - according to the Maya beliefs it was the name of a demigod responsible for good harvest. This archeological zone of Mexico was discovered only in 1997. It is probably for that reason that all the paintings, ruins, pyramids and other buildings are in perfect condition, untouched by human activity. The atmosphere of this place is unusually esoteric and due to that more and more tourists come to Mexico to visit temples and ruins of the ancient city hidden in the Ek Balam jungle.
