Florence is the Italian city in the central part of the country. Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral (Saint Mary of the Flower) is one of the most important historic buildings in the capital of Tuscany. The temple was built in the 13th century. The characteristic dome of the church – so called Brunelleschi’s Dome – was completed in the 15th century and its design was very innovative and ahead of its times. Today the cathedral represents the Neo-Gothic style, marble was the main building material used and the colorful stones on the facades are arranged in geometrical patterns. Red domes and roofs of the building are visible from afar and are the symbol of the city.
