The capital of England is Europe's third largest city. Greater London, covering the whole agglomeration, lies in five counties, however, the historic center of the city is located in the district known as The City of London, the area of which is so small that it is commonly called the "Square Mile". With the adjoining quarters, it creates London's business and tourist heart. There are some of England's most famous monuments, beautiful parks, world-famous shopping streets and distinctive buildings. The red brick buildings were constructed in the 19th century when London began to develop at a very rapid pace as a result of the industrial revolution. The buildings are relatively low, which makes this huge city not overwhelming, whereas its residents and guests feel comfortable there.
