Maxbrücke is the oldest arched stone bridge in Nuremberg. It is located on the Pegnitz river in the Old Town and connects two squares: Maxplatz and Untschlittplatz. The Maxbrücke was put into use in 1457, but since then it has been reconstructed and restored several times. In 1810, the bridge was named after the King of Bavaria, Maximilian I Joseph Wittelsbach, previously it had been known as the Stone Bridge. Currently, the Maxbrücke, immortalized on countless postcards, paintings and photographs, is one of Nuremberg's landmarks.
