Sopot is a coastal city located on the Bay of Gdańsk. The 511-meter pier, the longest construction of this type on the Baltic Sea, is the landmark of this popular resort. The first pier was opened here in 1827 and over the years it was gradually expanded. Currently, the pier is named after John Paul II and mainly serves recreational and walking functions. It is located in the immediate vicinity of the so-called Spa Square. Walking along the long, wooden pier tourists can admire Sopot beach, the characteristic building of Grand Hotel and the Lighthouse. In the summer season, admission to the pier is ticketed.
