Morocco is associated with lavish ornaments, among which intense colors are dominant. Glazed tiles are usually laid in geometric patterns, covering entire walls of buildings and floors. Traditionally, mosaics of small fragments of burnt clay can be made exclusively by male craftsmen. The tiles are carefully dyed yellow, red, green and blue, and cut into appropriate shapes so that they can create intricate, eye-catching compositions. Some stages of the traditional Moroccan art of laying mosaics have been kept secret until today and are only handed down from father to son.
