The ruins of the La Recoleccion Church of the Capuchin Convent (Templo de la Recolección) in the city of Antigua Guatemala. The construction of the church was finished in 1715, and in 1773 it was destroyed by a severe earthquake. The earthquakes that kept destroying the temple made so much damage in the city that the colonial authorities decided to move it to a safer place. In this way the present day capital of Guatemala - the city of Guatemala - was created. It is located several kilometers to the east from the city of Antigua Guatemala (Old Guatemala).
