We usually place cemetery candles to commemorate the deceased. In Poland they are most often lit on graves on cemeteries. However, people light such candles next to the monuments commemorating well-known people or important historic events. Cemetery candles play special role during All Saints' Day, when families and friends who visit the graves of the deceased prove that they remember the people who were important to them. During this day after the sunset cemeteries are candlelit by thousands of small lights, which creates extraordinary atmosphere; favors reminiscences and also reflections over things that are important in life.
